Morrisons, supported by Simons Group and Box
Clever Group, is bringing forward proposals for the
long-awaited redevelopment of the 'Old Market' site
on Black Bourton Road.
The proposal is to create a new Morrisons foodstore on the 'Old Market' site. As local residents will be aware, the site has remained largely unused since the closure of the market.
Carterton will be one of Morrisons' 'Stores of the Future' and will bring an exciting and diverse fresh food offer to the town. Our 'Store of the Future' concept focuses on a new model for grocery shopping. It will typically include features such as ice beds and misting technology to ensure freshness and stock new produce lines, such as exotic fruit and vegetables.
Morrisons' stores sell mostly food items with approximately 80% of space in the supermarket being dedicated to food.
Please take a look through the panels that were available at our public exhibition (held on 2 and 3 December 2011) which contain further details about the proposals.
Several hundred people attended the public exhibition and many provided comments about the emerging proposals. In all, 97.6% of respondents were in support of the plans. A planning application will be submitted to West Oxfordshire District Council in the New Year.
